1.21.10 Grey’s Anatomy Review – Season 6 Episode 12

This week’s Grey’s Anatomy was yet another episode of the doctors at Grace Hospital navigating their way through one night stands, bad choices, defining moments, and annoying patients. Meredith tells Derek of Chief’s drinking problem, then informs him not to tell anyone. Derek gets upset and says he is going to go directly to the board which prompts her to scream out “McDreamy is being a McAss!” Now that’s some Emmy winning writing right there!

In another part of town Alex and Lexie are discussing their one night fling when Izzie walks through the door providing the first of many awkward moments in the show. Izzie is back in town and looking to patch things up with Alex but is clueless that he’s slept with someone else. Izzie tries to have a deep discussion with Alex but he brushes her off and rushes to the hospital where he is met by a gay obese opera singer verbally abusing his boyfriend.

Meanwhile McAss confronts Richard and offers help, but is told to mind his own business. Chief Richard then signs himself up for a complicated surgery even though he has not operated in over seven months. Now McAss is really in a vice because he knows he needs to report Richard but he doesn’t want to upset his wife. He’s also scared that people will think he’s using this as a way to get Richard’s job.

In the end he slaps down a bottle of liquor in front of Chief Richard and calls him out on his drinking problem. He leaves and Chief ends up hitting the sauce and missing the surgery, leaving McDreamy no choice but to report him. By this time even Meredith agrees, and the last scene shows a dejected Chief Richard staring out of his office window at the board members about to come in and fire him.
